Our Doctors

James M. Sevey, DMD

Dr. Sevey, your trusted dentist in Bangor Maine has over 30 years of experience in the dental profession. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine in 1982, he continued his education there in the Division of Advanced Dental Education and completed a post graduate curriculum in General Dentistry in 1983. He then fulfilled a scholarship obligation with the National Health Service Corps by practicing for five years in a community based medical and dental center in an underserved area of western Pennsylvania. He relocated back to Maine in late 1988 and practiced in a partnership at Broadway Dental Associates in Bangor until the opening of Creative Dental Solutions in 2007.

The Maine State Board of Dental Examiners requires that dentists have a minimum of 20 hours of verifiable dental continuing education per year to maintain licensure. Dr. Sevey consistently exceeds these requirements. In the last 30 years, Dr. Sevey has averaged 80 hours per year. Dentistry is constantly evolving and Dr. Sevey’s commitment to continuing education keeps him current with the latest advances in order to benefit his patients as your top Bangor Maine dentist.

Memberships and Organizations:

Dr. Sevey, your dentist in Bangor Maine maintains membership in the American Dental Association, the Maine Dental Association, the Penobscot Valley Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentists, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the International Academy of Mini Dental Implants, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and the American Dental Implant Association where he has attained fellowship status.

Personal:

Dr. Sevey is originally from the Bangor Maine area and feels fortunate that he has had the opportunity to raise his family here. He has been married to Sophie for over 30 years and they have two sons. Personal interests include many outdoor recreational activities, personal fitness, and spending time with family.

Robert Atwell, DDS

Dr. Atwell is originally from Long Island, NY. He holds a B.S. in Bioengineering from SUNY Binghamton University and went on to University at Buffalo’s School of Dental Medicine for his D.D.S. He ventured to Maine to complete a general practice residency at Penobscot Community Health Care, in Bangor.

While at Buffalo he was awarded scholarships from the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Upon graduation he was awarded Delta Dental’s Student Leadership award, American Association of Public Health Dentistry’s Student Award and The American Academy of Orofacial Pain Award. Currently he is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association and Maine Dental Association

Dr. Atwell has a passion for understanding the masticatory system and serving others. Outside of the office Dr. Atwell enjoys sports such as swimming, cycling and running, playing guitar and exploring new ideas and places.

  Sophie Sevey New Patient Coordinator and Team Leader

  Sophie is our Clinic Administrator. She and Dr. Sevey have been married for over 30 years and have two sons. When their youngest got married in 2014, Sophie finally gained a daughter. Sophie and Dr. Sevey enjoy spending time at their camp on Moosehead Lake, hiking, kayaking and biking in the summer, then snowshoeing and skiing in the winter.

  Peggy Conner Financial Coordinator and Dr. Appointment Coordinator

  Peggy is our veteran!! She has been working in the dental field since 1987, a year before Dr. Sevey joined the practice! All our patients love Peggy because she loves them! Peggy greets everyone by name and always has a positive word to say. Peggy is kept busy out of the office with her four grandchildren.

  Susan Shaw Treatment Plan Coordinator

  Susan has worked with Dr. Sevey since 1993. Starting as a dental assistant, Susan now focuses on treatment planning and scheduling. Susan is a great resource for patients with all of her knowledge about dentistry. She goes above and beyond for patients, making sure they are well taken care of. When not in the office, Susan loves reading, movies, and spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as singing in her church choir.

  Erin Arnold Front Office Patient Care

  Erin joined us in 2014. She quickly picked up on her front office duties and has quickly become a vital part of our team. Erin is always upbeat and sincerely interested in our patients. Erin is a Hermon native. Erin enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors with her lab/beagle, Finn and her wife Kayla.

  Jessie Ford Front Office/Dental Assistant

  Jessie started working with us in 2008. She tried to leave, but we wouldn’t let her!! Jessie is currently taking Art at UMaine but manages to help us out a couple of times a week. She is a great asset as is able to fill in at the front or as an assistant. Jessie enjoys spending time with her boyfriend Joe and their golden retriever, Gus, hiking Maine’s beautiful outdoors.

  Tammy McLaughlin Certified Dental Assistant/Clinical Team Leader

  Tammy has worked as an assistant for Dr. Sevey since 1995. She is our invaluable clinical team leader! She keeps the doctors’ schedules running efficiently and her team members smiling. Tammy is a Brewer native. She is an amazingly creative person, making everything from stained glass to cheese to soap to wine. She loves spending time with her chickens, and her dog, Molly, and riding her motorbike.

  Leeann Joy Certified Dental Assistant

  Lee started working with Dr. Sevey when we moved to our new facility in 2007. Lee is our go-to-girl whenever anything needs fixing in the office! She is also passionate about taking exceptional care of our patients. Lee is a Mrs. Fix it at home too, always having a home improvement project on the go. She enjoys spending time with her family and Miniature Schnauzer, Dexter, and working out in her home gym.

  Casie Littlefield Dental Assistant

  Casie joined us in 2014 and has been an invaluable addition to our assisting team. Casie enjoys working with Dr. Sevey on his surgical cases as well as keeping all her team mates laughing! Casie is kept busy at home with her son, daughter, and boxer/black Lab, Marley. They enjoy camping and the outdoors.

  Lacey Littlefield Dental Assistant

  We were lucky to steal Lacey from PCDC in 2014! She fit right in with our team and is great with patients, making them feel completely at ease. Lacey keeps herself busy out of the office too, coaching softball, trying out new projects from Pinterest, and spending time dog sitting.

  Mara Garceau Dental Assistant

  Mara joined our assisting team in 2016. While having no previous experience in the dental field, Mara’s personality made her a great fit with our team. Mara is a quick study and quickly became a great asset. When out of the office, Mara enjoys spending time with friends, family, her wife, and her rabbit, Pancakes! Mara has a black belt in Taekwondo and enjoys being a member of Youngs’ MMA.

  Michelle Libby Registered Dental Hygienist

  Michelle has worked with Dr. Sevey since 2002. Michelle is a font of knowledge for her patients, always up on the latest advancements in her field. Michelle has spent time in England and in California before settling in Bangor with her husband, son, and golden retriever, Orla. Michelle is very creative so always has some project going at home.

  Tammy Frost-Albert Registered Dental Hygienist and Certified Dental Assistant

  Tammy started working with Dr. Sevey just before we moved to our new facility in 2007. Tammy’s patients love her attention to detail and thoroughness. Tammy is from Hampden and now lives in Bangor with her husband and Shih Tzu, Mildred. When not at Creative Dental Solutions, Tammy enjoys spending time with family, at her camp, and cheering on the Patriots!

  Kim Henderson Registered Dental Hygienist

  Kim has worked with Dr. Sevey since she graduated from Dental Hygiene school in 1990! Kim’s patients love her smiling face and gentle touch. Kim is an Old Town native and now lives in Bangor with her husband, son and daughter. She keeps busy when not at Creative Dental Solutions attending cheer leading competitions and ice hockey games!

  Anna Robertson Registered Dental Hygienist

  Anna started working with Dr. Sevey when we moved to our new facility in 2007. Anna’s patients enjoy her infectious giggle and her enthusiasm. Anna’s husband is also a hygienist and when out of the office, they enjoy Maine’s outdoors with their son and daughter, snowmobiling in the winter and boating in the summer.

  Beth loves to improve patients’ smiles! Beth is from Lee, where she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and golden retriever Jake. She loves the outdoors - camping, fishing, and hunting - making the most of all four seasons.
