Who knew there was so much to learn about toothpaste!

At our staff meeting last Friday, we were treated to an hour long presentation on toothpaste by our very own Michelle Libby. One of the most important considerations when choosing a toothpaste, is the RDA number. This is how abrasive the toothpaste is. If you have a lot of dental restorations in your mouth, crowns and/or bridges, it is important to stay away for abrasive toothpastes as they will scratch these porcelain restorations. Toothpastes with a high RDA number can also cause increased sensitivity. Examples of low abrasive toothpastes are Closys, Prevident gels, and Clinpro. Ask your hygienist to recommend the toothpaste that work best for you.
